I got the idea ten years ago for my bucket list novel from an interview in Dog Fancy magazine.
The pet parent in the photo, holding two adorable pups, seemed to have the world by the figurative tail. An HGTV celebrity doing what he loved to do, described by the interviewer as “uncomfortably good-looking”. But the person between the lines in the story told of a sadness, a longing for a love with no pretense, an unconditional acceptance of who he was, is and hoped to be
I hadn’t planned on writing a romance between a younger man and an older woman. Or boarding a plane from Iowa to New York City with my life partner and inspiration for Chef Darien to dine in an upscale Manhattan restaurant and walk the streets of Brooklyn where the love of Darien’s life, media consultant Alison Clarke, lived. But three days before Christmas, indie publisher 4Wurdz Press put the merry in my holiday. Reservations launched into the literary world on December 22, 2013.
But I wasn’t done. The McKenna family saga New Life in Love continued through three complete novels, a novella and four short stories. My awakened muse carried through to The UnMatchables romantic suspense series and political thrillers set in the capital city of my new home country Canada.
WHAT I’M READING
In the holiday spirit for a cozy mystery? I recommend wrapping up in something warm to ride out a rogue ice storm in A Campy Christmas penned by my friend and author Karen Musser Nortman.
Murder mystery more your genre choice? Then I suggest Edisto Tidings by the incomparable C. Hope Clark.
May joy and peace embrace you and may the rest of your days to the new year be merry and bright!
