A Hold on Harmony Summer

Hello, August! My favourite month of the year. Summer gardens and colours in full bloom. Warm days with a hint of autumn evening coolness that will shift the eye-pleasing show from wildflowers and planted annuals to red and gold leaves on the maple trees that surround my Nova Scotia home.

I promised my loyal newsletter subscribers chapter three in the budding romance of Nikki Pearson and Sean Lohnes that began with “A Harmony Christmas” and continued in “A Harmony Christmas, Too”. As happens all too often, life got in the way in June and July with the loss of my Husky girl Rosie, the last of my family from Iowa, and my dear friend Susan who was the big sister I never had in life and love.

I will deliver on the promise of “South Shore Summer” before the sun sets on the last day of the season I love most.

A New Dog in My Life

A month to the day after I had to say goodbye to Rosie, Minnie arrived at my front door.

Misfit Manor Dog Rescue took my new girl in last fall as a stray found foraging for food in the woods of Alberta. Minnie needed surgery on both of her back legs likely due to a lack of proper nutrition for her young growing body. I’m fostering Minnie until her hip is surgically repaired this fall. But once her rehab is done, this sweet mixed breed survivor (definitely Husky, possibly German Shepherd and Beagle) with the adorable head tilt and comic howl at meal time will be mine to adopt!

Welcome home, Minnie-moo!

Rescued!

All seven of my dogs have been adopted from shelters or rescues. Hank’s Longhorn Cafe in “Heartland”, the second novel in my contemporary romance family saga series was named after the fictional diner owner’s pet and my late husband’s constant companion. I tried but couldn’t save a pair of white Huskies. So I brought both of those beautiful souls back to life as the dog Darien McKenna adopts from a shelter before Ivory’s time is up in “Heartland” and Priya, the pup that Darien’s daughter Marisa rescues in “Belonging”, the third novel in the New Life in Love romance series.

Both are great beach or pool-side reads. Enjoy with the sun on your face and your toes in the sand or refreshing cool water!

Here’s to a memorable south shore summer wherever you are!
